Miracle of the Mass

Updated: Jan 1, 2023

MIRACLE OF THE MASS My phone alarm goes off at 5:45 am.  As I awake, my thoughts are on You.  I slowly get out of bed and as I say my morning offering, my heart ponders on the planned events of the day that might change or almost always does as Your will takes over.  My heart continues to pray and meditate on Your love Oh God. I get in the car and drive down the scenic route of love that you pour out for me every morning as the sun rises over the lake, driving over the bridge.  The beauty of your majesty surrounds me in my car as I say prayers of thanksgiving for your gifts that I take for granted.  The air that I breathe, the magnificent clouds that are ever changing. As I drive, I pray my rosary for the petitions that are dear to my heart or I just talk to you about things that are on my mind.  Of course, you already know everything, but I act as if you don’t and tell you anyways. Arriving safely at church, I seem to skip to the door as my heart anticipates seeing You.  I open the door and there You are on the altar in a monstrance, my Lord, my humble Lord.  My heart just spills out all these words of thanksgiving and love.  Thank you, Lord, for the beautiful sunrise this morning.  Thank you, Lord, for allowing me to be here with you. I love you Lord for dying for me.  As I continue to look at you with so much love and gratitude, you fill me with so much love to carry out to those I love and others that I don’t know.  The time goes quickly and then I have to say good-bye and You are placed in the Tabernacle.  The King of Kings and Lord of Lords puts Himself in a box for love of us. As I come to my senses from this exchange of love, I prepare myself for the Mass.  The bell rings and I stand and say the opening prayer stating my guilt and asking for prayers.  I feel You purifying my soul in preparation for the greatest miracle of all.  As the mass continues with the reading and gospel, I ponder on what you are telling me.  Sometimes it is very obvious.  You seem to just know what I need to hear.  Other times, I pray for the grace to understand what I need to hear. As the consecration draws near, my heart starts to race!!  Soon my Lord will be on the altar!!  I picture all the angels and saints all around the altar and Mother standing next to the priest.  Then the miracle occurs.  The priest picks up the round circle, called the host and says:  TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND EAT OF IT, FOR THIS IS MY BODY, WHICH WILL BE GIVEN UP FOR YOU. At that moment the ordinary bread and ordinary wine become the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ!!!  My Lord, the Savior of all comes to me!! I could hardly contain my heart for it knows that the Redeemer is within that piece of bread. It’s so easy to get used to this miracle day in and day out.  Our attention span, as humans, is very pitiful, but if we allow Him to enter our hearts, we know that He is real.  He is alive!! As the mass continues and we pray to the Father.  I pray for His Kingdom to come on earth as it is in Heaven.  I just imagine how wonderful it would be if Earth was like Heaven. Oh Lord I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof but only say the word and my soul shall be healed. By now, my heart starts to race even faster with much anticipation.  As I kneel and the priest lays You ever so gently on my tongue.  My heart is filled to the brim with love.  At that very moment, I see my unworthiness and littleness, but yet You fill my heart even more to the point of explosion.  Oh what a great gift it would be to die of love for You, my Lord! The miracle of the mass occurs every day, but I don’t see people waiting in line to enter.  I don’t see people taking time to enter, only a small group that know this is the place of miracles.  This is the place where our Lord resides.  This is the place where Heaven touches Earth. There is no hoopla or fanfare.  There is no loud noises or yelling…. Only silence that pierces the heart with love.  The love you won’t find anywhere else.  The love of the Father who made us.  The love of the Son who redeemed us and the love of the Holy Spirit who accompanies us. COME LET US ADORE HIM!!
